BRAVO TO MRS DEBRUICKER, teachers and students for a great Spirit Week, magnificent Pep Rally and Homecoming Parade, game and dance. Ms. Hershey and BRHS band, you were great! Thanks to the parents who helped in concessions, with field cleanup and dance chaperones! We love parent presence! Seniors won the penny war with great school spirit!
Good luck to the students in Jazz Ensemble, and to Jamie Swartz and Xavier Demar who are performing at the IPS Hall of Fame Luncheon today. Thanks also to the Mrs. Debruicker and some of the National Honor Society students who are serving as hosts and hostesses at the luncheon.
One of our teachers, Mrs Susan Barakat, was mentioned in todays Indpls Star article, Life on the Edge, in reference to graduate David Horton and how she encouraged and helped him work towards a goal of going to college! Teachers CAN make a difference.
Todays' Star also had an article about eating dinner together as a family... teenagers who average fewer than two family dinners a week are more likely to do drugs, smoke and/or drink, compared with teens who have family dinners 5 or more times a week. specifically, marijuana use is 6 times more likely for 12-13 yrs olds, 3 times more likely for 14-15 yrs olds and twice as likel,y for 16-17 yrs olds; 50% of teens who had fewer than 2 family dinners a week had drunk alcohol and 25% had used marijuana. teens who families have infrequent family dinners are 3 times more likely to abuse prescription drugs. When asked the best time to talk to their parents about something important, nearly half the teens surveyed said during dinner. 84% of teens said they prefer to eat with their family then to eat alone.
